Carb rebuild companies

Hey gang, just a heads up. Becareful next time you go to your local parts store and order a remanufactured carb through a company called Champion. I ordered a 1946 for my '83 200 and it ran fine for about two weeks. Last week the car quit as I was leaving work. I nursed it back to the parking lot and thought maybe it was the fuel pump. I don't know what it was, but there was a problem inside. The fuel was getting into the carb, but not into the engine. I had my girlfriend drive home and grab my old junky 1-bbl and after I bolted it back on, the car ran fine. ( well, as good as it did before anyway.) So since that carb was warrantied, I sent out for another one. Tonight I finally got to bolt the 2nd one on the car and same problem, gas was going into the carb and for some reason, it wasn't getting down into the engine. Finally I got mad and bolted my old carb back on and sure enough, car fired right up no problem.

Champion, A-1 Cardone, Holley...

I haven't seen a decent "remanufactured" carb in years. Unless yours has a major problem (like it's cracked in half), it's better to get a kit and rebuild it yourself - and 1-bbl's are way easy!

Usually the most a "completely worn out" carb needs is bushings on the throttle shaft and a rebuild kit, 9 of 10 times just a kit.

Remember - when doing your carb, cleanliness IS godliness!

The reason I bought a remaned was that my original carb has been rebuilt. I had a buddy of mine help me with it and we may have missed a couple things. I'll try a couple other things this weekend and see what happens.

you forgot the joy of missing parts, warped flanges and grooved throttle bores!

Personally, I wouldn´t trust any carby that I haven´t rebuilt myself, or that didn´t come off a running engine or from Ponycarbs. And even the latter I would carefully inspect.
