All Small Six Carburetor spacers as more volume ?

This relates to all small sixes

Seeing as the one of the advantages of a “large log” head is the larger plenum volume, I wonder if adding a carburetor spacer would effectively increase the volume of air/ fuel availabile to the engine? If so, what are the advantages/disadvantages, and why?

The larger carb. more cfm flow is a big factor in the large log head engine having more power.
I ran an Autolite 1100 on a 65 200 engine with both the 65 small log head and on a 78 large log head.
The small log head with the Autolite 1100 had more power.
When I installed a Carter YFA carb. on the large log head the power increased greatly over the small log head with a Autolite 1100.

Universally using a Taller Carb Spacer has been shone to make more power on the Dyno. Its also why the old Ram type Carb Intake Manifolds were excellent for making power even on the street, just like the long runner EFI Intakes of today are being used to build more low end Torque.

forced induction projects led me to fab a large plenum for the Offy Tri-Power adaptor on a built log head.

The single large 2Bbl on the 2X4 plenum on the Offy adapter was effective at making the engine more stable in throttle transitions with better low throttle performance (torque). Times at track with single plenum 2Bbl did not improve over the three Holley 1904' progressive setup but did take 1/3 the time - tuning .

more testing needed ...

hav e fun

The forum member that mounted a Carter 2v BBD to the stock mounting pad as opposed to machining and direct mounting to the log, effectively a very tall carb spacer, reported excellent performance results. So probably a contributing factor?

I wish that I had a dyno in the garage.

I'd have taken a baseline on the setup after the car arrived (on a wrecker) and I got it going with the Autolite 1100 on the 250 head. I'd love to know how much of a boost I'm getting from adding a Weber32/36 with a spacer/adapter, headers, HEI, etc. I do plan on taking it in for a test once everything is put together. Seeing the results will either make me feel like it was all worth it or wax suicidal.
