I have a very stupid question but here it goes. I know that free play is the distance the throwout travels before hiting the presure plate fingers. But with the tention on the pedal from the springs and the fact that I don't have xray vision I can't tell when that is. How do I tell?????

Also, the whole incress free paly and decrease free play by turning the two linkage nuts are little confusing and i don't want to go the wrong way. Can anyone help??

Free play is measured at the pedal. It is the distance the pedal moves before it pushs the throwout bearing into the pressure plate. Makeing the linkage longer gives less freeplay shorter more free play. you can feel this easily with your hand on the clutch pedal. push it down and it should move about 1/2 - 1" with little or no resistance just the spring load then you will feel the pressure plate springs. As the linkages wear free play is often increased as it now has to take up that slack and especaially where the z-bar bushings wear out.

Ok then should I increase the free play or decrese it . Move the nut toward the inside of the car or toward the headlight?

well i quess that would depend on how much free play you have now. Is there a problem that you are trying to correct?
