I'm installing new cam today and was wondering about this collar. What is its purpose? Does it have to be reinstalled? If so what is the best method to remove the dowel pin from the new cam. It didn't fall out like the pin in my original cam. Thanks. Peyton

You need the spacer. It prevents the cam gear from pinching the retainer and jamming the cam.

You can pull the dowel by just grabbing it with vise grips and twisting. It comes out pretty easily.

Peyton, Jack gave you the right info on the spacer.

If you have problems getting the dowel pin out, heat the camshaft area where the dowel pin presses into the camshaft & it should come out very easy. If you damage the pin, go to your auto parts store & the pin is available from pioneer.
Hope you like the camshaft. William

Yea, I boogered it up a little bit taking it out. It was pretty tight, so I reused the one from the old cam. Thanks guys!
