200 and 250 head are they exactly the same... i talked to a mechanic whos worked on these for a very long time old guy who rebuilds heads and engines he said to get a 250 head...on this forum and other places everyone says they are the same...So are they exactly the same? Thanks.

The 200 and 250 heads are exactly the same part from 1969 onwards.

However, there were revisions through the years. Early heads had higher compression and smaller valves, and the later heads were opposite. The bigger valves, hardened seats and larger intake volume make the later heads more desirable (the head can always be milled to raise compression), but any year head will physically bolt on to any year and displacement block.

Any head can bolt on to any motor, but there are some idfferences. For instance, I have two '69 heads. One is a small log head with 1.5" carb hole and 54cc chambers. The other is a large, "flat top" log head with a 1.75" carb hole and 63cc chambers. For high performance, I used the latter head and milled it until the chambers gave 51.5cc. I also did a bunch of other stuff that is besides the point here, but my point is that both heads fit my engine, but the latter head has considerably more performance potential, assuming you are willing to pay for the machine work (e.g. milling).
