I'm putting my motor back together (70 3.3) and I don't remember where the larger bearings with the flanges go on the crankshaft! please help!

8) if you look at the bearing saddles in the block, you should see where the factory machined the saddles to allow for the thrust bearing.

Ok, this may be stupid, but by # 3 do you mean the one stamped #3 or the one stamped T, which could stand for thrust.

On a seven main six block is Fifth (5) from front or third (3) from the rear

 ok good luck

do you have way to check the trust measurement?

Rancher, I think you should go to a bookstore and pick up one of the picture-heavy "Rebuilding Small Block Ford Engines" books that are commonly available. The book won't cover 6 cylinders specifically, but the steps are basically the same, many of the Ford-specific nuances are the same, and you will get to see pictures of what people are talking about here. It is very important that the thrust bearing halves go in the right way, get their thrust surfaces aligned before torquing, then the thrust bearing-crankshaft end play get checked for proper tolerances. When I started rebuilding engines I used one of these books and still use one as a reference to make sure I don't miss something somewhere. Most of the mistakes I see and hear others making that shorten their engine life wouldn't have happened if they were methodical and referred to the procedures and pictures in these books.

Hi 63 Rancher,

Easy to do you can check out the post by "echo1955" "Rebuild 65 200 I6 Block" at top of page 2 shows a picture of him taking a thrust meas. He posted lots of other pictures of his 200 build so may be some other things to help you. Good luck
