36 mm carbs may have an effective venturi size of something less than the 9.5 square inches (or 36 mm of venturi area per piston) Weber recomends for maximum performance at 6000 rpm in a car with over 500 cc per cylinder. But that's just me splitting hairs again.
Truth is, the Baja racers with OHC 2300's have shoved these carbs on off roaders for years, and found them to be excellent. There are a bewildering array of tunning bits around, and as long as you sort out a nice long travel acclerator pedal with enough mechanical advantage, they are possibly the best carb to use on a dollar for dollar basis. Very easy to get the manifold sorted. For guys like you Jack, with acess to the right guys to weld and tune, it would be the ultimate!
