Hi there I have a 1966 200 block that the head went bad on. I found a replacement but it is a 1967 casting and looks slightly different than my 66 head that I took off. I know this head will bolt on and function the same, but what if any mods will I have to do? I am new to the forum and look forward to responses

First off, WELCOME!

Second, please read the info about head swaps that my brother wrote. It is in a sticky at the top of this section or http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1027

Finally, the 1966 and 1967 heads are virtually identical... No changes will need to be made - HOWEVER, if you've got the head off, at the very least, change the valve stem oil seals.

If you are looking for better performance, consider continuing your search to find a 1969 od newer head.

Howdy All:

Yes, the head is a direct swap, but please note the differences in the stock OEM steel shim head gasket and the aftermarket composite type that you will likely have to use.

Without compensating for the difference in thickness you'll lose about a half a point in compression.

I swapped out a '77 250 ci head on my '65. This is a later style head, but I can you what those differences were so you can check on the new head you have.

1) The t-stat outlet was different. The 250 outlet was a larger diameter that the 200. Both housing had the same bolt spacing, it was just the hose outlet that was different.

2) The temp senders had different threads and electrical connection. I ended up using the '65 sender in a brass pipe bushing.

3) The chamber volume was different. That, plus the thicker composite gasket would have significantly lowered the egine's CR. You will need to mill the head to even maintain the CR.

That was about all the differences. The later 250 hed has larger intake valves, and manifold volume. Both will help with the perfomance.
