D8 cylinder head...and milling it

I have the Schjeldahl's book..

My cylinder head is off a 1978 Fairmont 200cid engine

It mentions to mill the head .075 for compression on a 200cid block.

I am just asking IF this amount of milling holds true ? The car is not a daily driver , only a play - run the snot out of it car.

Pistons in the engine are fresh .030 over cast with small dish on the piston top.

i would just be sure to cc it first to make sure it hasn't been milled before, what kind of comp. ratio are you going for.

When I had my engine rebuilt, I had the machine shop take 0.030" off the block and about 0.040" off the head to get the 9.3 CR I was looking for. But I arrived at this numbers by measuring the cc's of the head with a graduated cylinder and the deck height with a dial indicator. Please don't go blindly milling the head; measure and use an on-line compression calculator to remove EXACTLY the required amount. If too much is removed and the CR is too high, thar ain't no goin' back!!

Also, if the head/deck is milled make sure you install an adjustable rocker arm kit.

Tony,
Dealing with 30 + year old parts, there are a lot of variances.
get the machine shop to cc the head. my machine shop included it in the
deal. it's really the only way to do it right.

This Fairmont was a 51k original car. A friend bought the car , sold me the power train. He installed a 460 - C4 combo into it.

The head is very clean , in good shape to indicate the mileage of 51k is probably correct.
