so which way is retarding and which way is advancing the cam...would moving the cam mark down advance it? on my '74 250 engine, is it possible to advance the cam by offsetting it by one tooth as well?
Up or down I am not sure of but here is the way to do it. holding the crank still if you want to retard the cam you want to turn the it in the normal direction. the other direction advaces it.

the chain has to come right off though right....so clockwise would be advancing it?
