Diff For XC

Hey guys,
I'm looking for a new diff for the ute...
I want a BW with a 2.77:1 ratio.
not fussy about disc or drum, but would prefer disc.


What cars came with these??
I'm thinking XC GXL 6 and 302, but nore sure of the ratio in these, i know the 351 had a 2.75:1 9"
i'm guessing the 302 ZH is the same as the 6 and 302 GXL.

1.Legally get any 4.1 XF Utility diff. They are often 2.77:1, and they were all leaf sprung. Some 4.1 utes got 2.92:1 from the XC to XD era. Some 4.1 XE's may have got it, but it depends on if the vehicle was 4.1 EFI or the wide ratio carby four-speed floorshift.

There were minor differences in the steel brake lines and anti-roll bar mounts with the post XC Falcons, , but they are a straight drop in.

2. Get any XE wagon 4.1 diff, or some alloy head XD 1/2 4.1 sedans got them too. Plenty to choose from.

A friendly autowrecker should help out.
 
I know a bloke up your way (Lisarow actually) with a Landau diff gathering dust. 9" disc brake jobbie. Interested? I can put you in touch with him. He's usually negotiable.

But i dont really want to spend 9" money
i was looking around the $100-$150. but if he's up for it i'll take it off his hands :)

the XC/ZH diff ratios work out like this

manual 6 - 3.23 drum BW
auto 6 - 2.77 2.92 drum BW

manual 302 - 3.23 LSD disc BW
auto 302 - 2.92 LSD disc BW

all 351 - 3.0 Detroit Locker disc 9inch

all 6 utes had either 3.23 or 3.45 BW drum
V8's had either the 9inch or 2.92 BW with discs

all ZH came with 4 wheel discs and either 2.92 or 3.0 ratios

all 351's regardless of bodystyle came with the 3.0 9inch disc rear end and this was the only available ratio. hope that helps

Are you sure about the ZH's?
both of my 351 ZH's had 2.75:1 9" rears.

I have to disagree on those ratio's 2nd-gunman
First of all, 6 cylinder XC's had disc or drum rear, depending on option or model, same with LSD. The ratio varied from 3.5 for a 200 manual commercial vehicle to 2.92 for an automatic 250.
302's were all 2.92, disc or drum, LSD or standard.
351's all had discs, all had LSD, 3.00 ratio for manual, 2.75 for auto.
All Fairmont GXL had rear discs and LSD
rear disc and LSD standard with 351, optional on 250 and 302.
