My 200 has the original 67' head so it is the small log. I have a Weber 38 DGAS with a clifford adater. I was wondering if I can direct mount this and what I need to do it. I'm a welding engineering student at Ferris State Univ. so I have pretty decent fab. skills and basic machining skills too. I have access to a wide range of tools and material too. I'm considering this option on my current head while I wait for possible new alternatives to pop up when I'm not a poor college student anymore. Thanks for any info. 8)

I think the flat you would have machine on the log for a direct mount does not have to be too big. It only needs to be big enough for a adaptor plate to seal to the head. If you only get .150 of a inch around the holes you make i think it would be plenty.

I just can't reist this. Am I the only one on here that finds it ironic that a person working on a IRON head is a WELDING ENGINEERING student
at FERRIS state

Are you saying I should be designing a aluminum head or other performance parts? I'm not quite that far into my studies yet? I'm just now getting into robotics and automation. When you say "If you only get .150" around the holes you make" do you mean the area along the log that is left after machining or what? Unfortunately I don't have my head here in the dorm room so I need a few specifics cause I need some more info. to visualize it. Thanks.

When you hear of "direct mount" the only way practial to make the carb work is to make a spacer plate so you can bolt the carb to. most direct mounts on hear always use a alum plate for this. Here is a link that might help http://inlinefever.homestead.com/RamAir.html there is a lot of info in the tech section of the ford six website.

I know it was a bad pun about the head you were working on was iron and
the name of school was ferris state. (all metals with iron in them are known a ferris metal and all others ar known as non-ferris)

Ferris-Ferrous I get it. Sorry I should have caught that one..... I have been to Doug site quite a bit, but thanks for the reminder. I guess I'll have to head home for the wkend and start taking some measurements and making some drawings.

You don't have your cylinder head in the dorm room and you still call yourself a gearhead? tsk,tsk I used the janitor's closet to rebuild my carb up at Michigan Tech way back when!! I'm sure the RA and your room mate wouldn't mind just one cylinder head in the room. Tell them it for a "special project" :D

Good luck with school.

Dstud2000,

I've got a deal for you if you're interested. I'm heading up to Traverse City this weekend and will be passing right through Big Rapids on Sat Morning. Here's the deal....I've got a spare '69 head sitting in my basement that I'm not gonna use. If you're interested (and up on a Sat morning, ahhh.....college life) I could drop it off at your door for ya. A couple of bucks and it's yours delivered, you can measure & weld away. Let me know if you're interested.

I picked it up for $30 but I'd be fine with $20 or so. You make the call. I'm partial to Ferris. Just PM me your address & phone #, if interested. I plan on being through there around 10-11am on Saturday.
