However since you have a 64 engine, check the size of the distributor shaft that goes into the cylinder block.
I believe 64 was the year that they went to the larger distributor shaft which would be the same size as the 68 distributor shaft. Knowing ford if you have an early production 64 engine it might have the smaller shaft.
I think ford went to the larger shaft on 64 1/2 & up. Check the diameter of the distributor shafts to be sure.
If you have the small shaft the 68 distributor shaft can be turned down to the smaller diameter, or the block can be machined to accept the larger 68 shaft. Then you will need a later oil pump & hex shaft to be compatable to the 68 distributor. best of luck. Bill
bubba22349: Can you elabotate on the mods a bit? Don't want to jack the OP's thread, but I plugged the SCV and am using full manifold vac on my son's Mustang. Working fine, but would like to get ported vacuum back.
block off scv at the carb vacuum line?? Then add new vacuum line from manifold to newer dist.
It's one way and is the easiest. Other way is to remove the SCV and plug few mods and you can use it as a ported vac.

Yes, I don't understand the adaptation..."and plug few mods"
I don't think the later distributor will fit that block without some machine work. Not only is the distributor shaft diameter larger, but the oil pump drive hex is bigger than the '64.
