I have a couple spare distributors and I was wondering if there's a performance difference and how much. One is out of a 64 1/2 mustang... the non-thermactor type and it has a pertronix ignitor I on it. The other is the thermactor type with vacuum and mechanical advance. I'm just wondering if its worth switching over to the one with mechanical advance vs the other one with the pertronix and how much a difference it would make.

Hi Watcher75,

This Load-o-Matic sticky at the top of this board is a must read related to this subject. As for myself, I like the dual advance unit for control / performance. Unfortunately, the Ignitor you have can't be used in the dual advance unit.

ahh I see. So the older distributor I have is the load-o-matic? That explains a lot. So now about that ignitor... is it just the magnetic sleeve that's different between the two? If it is then I'll just order a new one.
Thanks for the reply!
