I have a stock 73 200 I6. Looking to upgrade dizzy.

My goal is to have a dependable driver.

I'm thinking of going with a DSII or DUI.

I'd appreciate any pros or cons. Thanks.

8) a good recurved distributor is a wise choice, but unless you are doing some serious high performance mods, the MSD ignition is a bit of overkill. a much less expensive alternative is either the duraspark, chrysler ignition, or gm ignition module. these boxes can be had for less than $50, and are available at any parts store if they need replacement, and are simple to wire in, check out www.gofastforless.com on how to install these ignitions.

For dependable,

Just go with the DSII with a GM module. Total swap, with new parts, maybe $80-100 with teh added benefit that it is all over the counter so if something fails you don't have to wait for 5 days for a shipment.

I'm a huge believer in the DSII. Definitely get WSA's recurve option. Worth every penny.

the MSD will help pull a few more MPGs out, but unless you need it, probably not worth it unless you come across a good deal on one. I ran with one and loved it, but it's an optional upgrade.

:D Have been using the DS2 system since about 1993.Have driven appx 200k miles without a failure in two different trucks,a 74 F100 with a 302 and my current ride,a 1984 F150 with a 300 six cyl..If you don`t count the time Mother Nature killed two DS2 modules at the same time.Lightening hit a utility pole about 10 feet from my truck, and that was"all she wrote".EMP killed them both.Just use an extra ground wire from one of the mounting screws to the firewall or other suitable grounding spot for a little extra insurance.
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

For my 66 200ci I simply replaced the LOM with a rebuilt 68+ OE distributor and added a Pertronix I. Low budget with great results (car already had a 40K volt aftermarket coil). I'm not a fan of putting GM parts on a Ford, but a Duraspark setup was another option I thought about, but that would add another component and harness/connectors to possibilities of issues down the road, ;)

Another vote for the DSII. I took the distributor, ignition box and wiring harness from a 82 Mercury Zephyr. All dropped right in and the car runs great. I plan to have the distributor re-curved when I put the '82 head and direct mount 2V carburetor on.
