Are the small block and big block six distributors interchangeable?

At a glance they could look the same. Biggest obvious difference is the gear is to the body on one and the body has a taper to clear it. The other the gear is down so the shank of it acts as a spacer from the body. Dont ask me which is which at the moment I cant remember.
