All Small Six Can't start 200 unless I max out timing

This relates to all small sixes

Hey all. Had some issues with the 200 running rich - turns out the power valve was stuck open due to no plug & gunk getting onto the little piston. Cleaned it and installed a plug on top.

Now, it won't start at all unless I max out timing (vacuum diaphragm hit the engine block). Even then, idle is very rough/loopy. I reinstalled the dizzy for around 6* advance on compression stroke, here’s a video of how it sounds being cranked:

Here’s also some pictures of the inside of the dizzy. I’m not sure if I’m now running lean, or if the old richness was covering up ignition issues. It’s never ran well, so I wouldn’t be surprised if all of these generic ignition products is the problem.

I had a ton of trouble with my points. I went through 3 brand new sets before I bought some blue streak points from oreillys I would have to have my timing way advanced and then would have a ton of trouble starting it. Try that and report back

Are the spark plugs clean looking?
Took em out, they were covered black from when it was rich! Cleaned em up good and holy moly it runs. Doesn’t sound too bad, a little rough but ima let it warm up and adjust mixture, timing, idle speeds and see how well I can get it.

The spark plugs are around a few months new, would cleaning them up be good enough or should I get a new set, again?

Get new plugs.
