DS2-DUI

Ok quick question, I did the whole spring recurve on my first dizzy and it worked good until the magnet mechanism inside the dizzy went bad and left me starnded. The second dizzy has been good up until a few days ago when it started to make a grinding sound. Which happened because the plate that holds the magnet has shifted and come too close with the impeller making the 2 hit and the there is no amt of adjustment to make the 2 clear because the plate is so loose. So with Xmas a couple weeks away should I spring for the DUI? With the proof of mraleys hp gains over the ds2 with msd which I just have the ford module it seems like an ok thing since relatives would buy it for no cost to me. Its either that or new fishing tackle.

I disagree.

I reckon BCD needs to get on top of the DS-II before moving on from there. Then again, I'm a certified tightwad.

Right, you are frugal, and if BCD is also he would be better off letting the in-laws buy the spendy parts and retaining his frugality for fishing stuff. Note he said that somebody else would be paying for his fising tackle or DUI, can't get any cheaper then 'free'

I like my DUI, but mostly beacuse it allowed me to clean up a bunch of wiring. That and I'm not ruining coils at a rate of 1 per year (I wonder what that was about...)

8) i tend to be as frugal as addo, ok maybe not that frugal, but i say go with the DUI system if you can afford it. this way you get brand new stuff, and you eliminate the external ignition box and the associated wiring.

I'm gonna go with the DUI but my parents dont wanna spring the extra hundred bucks for the live wires dont blame em I cant push too far is it ok to use the ds2 8mm wires.

I'm inclined to disagree.
I'd much rather open up $400 worth of fishing lures on Christmas morning!! :shock: :santa;

you can use a less expensive set of wires for the DUI system. remember the DUI is basically an HEI distributor that works in a ford rather than in a gm product.

You can just get a standard set if wires for a say 78 fairmont with the 200. They will fit as poorly as they would on the fairmont like most of the aftermarket stuff only issue is the DUI is a bit taller than a DS2. Maybe a set for a 78 F150 with the 300? That should give you a few extra inches on each wire? You could also try a set for a say 78 chev truck with the 250? 6 in it, but you would want to check the boots, for some reason im thinking that there was a chev inline that was a cross flow so it may have 90's on some of the plug ends. A better looking but still inexpensive option would be one of the sets that just comes with one end hooked on and you cut to the length you want and crimp the other end on yourself. Some sets come with a tool you can put in a vise others you have to buy a tool or carefully do it with a pliers.

I acutally really like your system Mark especially the aussie but the price tag is too much for me right now so I'm getting all the bolt on stuff first before moving to the intake.

Ya, that's with all the upgrades. However I put the DUI on the stock 200 before I did any other upgrades. It worked great, and what a difference in performance.

I did step by step, as I expect anyone to do first.

In the order I did it: the DUI, 3.0 rear end, Autolite 2100, then the Assiue Head on a rebuilt engine. I guess my point is the you can put I DUI on a stock engine and get excellent performance, then slowly do the upgrades.

Yes, Yes Yes Seat of the pants feel. Again the DUI is pricey but I new I was going with the rest of the package soon. So wanted the best, and that seem to be the product for me.

Ok the dui is on order one question though. When I go to put it in after xmas of course I will run a relay but to trigger it i will use the coil wire does the resistor still ned to be removed even though i'm getting the main power to the relay from the batt. solenoid and just using the switch to trigger it on and off.

The coil wire is 12 volts at start, and then drops down to 6 volts after start. So the answer to your question is; I don't think you have to unplug the resistor, in fact if you do I don't believe it will work with the key. Although if you hook up a wire directly from the battery to the DUI without a cut off the DUI will always be on. Id just run a wire from the red wire that the resistor (pink wire) is hooked into back to the DUI. I hope this as clear as mud. Run a search on "pink wire" and this may help.

A relay should run fine through the ballast resistor wire. It takes more power to get the relay to pull in (which you will have if its otherwise a stock setup because the power during cranking comes from I on the solenoid). A good relay will have specs that say how many volts it takes to pull in and then what it takes to hold. I would guess a typical 12V relay would pull in around 11 and hold till around 6. With only the relay in the circuit I doubt you will see much of a voltage drop due to the resistor.

I would have to read my own posts to remember where I hooked my relay on for my DS2. I know I did not remove the resistor wire and mine is working fine. Just wish my memory worked as good as the car.
