DSII Recurve question

Just recurved my DSII dist with a kit from Mr Gasket. All of the recurve instructions I have seen talk about the different slots in the dizzy for timing advance, such as 10L,13L,18L etc. My DSII has 13R and 18R. What's the difference between L&R and does it matter in my application. I am putting this on a 1965 200 and upgrading the head also.

Don't know the dif between l&r, but the 13 or whatever number is the degrees of advance(mechanical). To get the total mech advance, multiply the number x 2. 13=26 degrees of mechanical advance and then you add that to the total ignition advance( say 12 degrees). This would be 38 degrees overall timing. Rein-carnation has a good site that explains alot of this.

Yeah, I know what the numbers mean, I was hoping someone could shed some light on the L & R deal.

It refers to the direction of rotation. V8 distributors rotate CCW (L) and sixes rotate CW (R). The advance plate is cut so the weights can swing left or right, depending on the distributor rotation. If you pull the advance plate, you will probably find it marked 18L and 13L for use in the other direction.

Zorm, I ordered that Mr Gasket spring set from my local Autozone for about $7.50.

Hey, I'm in Pensacola also. Where are you?
