DUI Question

I have read that a few have had module in there DUI distributors go caput. Whats the general diagnosis of such, mine runs roughish even after a 10 minute drive home and i bury the foot its still feeling like a cold motor car. My tune is spot on.

before you condemn the module, i would be looking for vacuum leaks, run a compression check, etc. once you have done these basic things first, then go after the module. one bit of advice though, carry a spare in your glove box.

Of course if you buy a spare, you could install it, and if nothing changes then your old one becomes your spare.

Put a timing light on each plug wire to see if the condition exists on all cylinders.
On several Dui's i have worked on the holes in the rotor do not line up with the mounting surface of the advance plate. The holes in the rotor might need to be elongated or purchase another rotor.
I would get a MSD rotor for a GM HEI. They make top quality parts.
Also has seen where some rotors bind the advance weights for free movement.
Make sure to use the dielectric grease under the module.
Also does not hurt to ohm the pickup coil.

thanks for replies guys, i will grab some spares, might do the MSD cap also as recommended and check over it, its been trouble free and was installed in 2014, i have done 7 race meetings with it and driven to some tracks up to 7 hours away, raced in the heat, never let me down, it could be timing related, i will check that out.

I'd look around before jumping on any MSD parts, especially HEI parts. The internet is littered with stories of poor performance and early failure with MSD caps & rotors. If you're buying HEI parts, I would stick with Delco, personally.

Every several months, need to remove the rotor & make sure there is no rust on the advance components. The high voltage right above the mechanical advance fries any lube on the advance weights.

I just found my GM tech school book on the DUI distributor.
If anyone need trouble shooting charts let me know.
I will have to scan the lesson charts so i can post them.
