DUI Setup Help

Okay folks, need some help before I pull what little hair I have out. :bang:

I Just installed a DUI distributor that arrived from Classic Inlines Saturday. I’m not able to get my car (65 mustang inline 6, 200 ci) to start. It was running off the old distributor and coil set up, but I can’t get it to fire with the new DUI. I’m not sure if I’ve installed something incorrectly or if I’m missing something.
I installed a 12 gauge wire run from my positive battery terminal to a 12v/30a relay. Run old coil wire to relay, and a ground wire from it. 12 gauge output wire to distributor w/15a fuse. I’ve verified constant 12v to the relay, and 12v to the distributor when the ignition is on. My electrical setup is identical to the diagram shown on the Classic Inclines website.

I replaced all the plugs and gapped them at .050. I’ve pulled each plug individually and verified spark when I crank the engine.
When I installed the DUI I rotated the #1 cylinder to TDC, and verified the timing mark on the crank pulley and timing chain cover lined up. Visual inspection in the plug hole indicates that piston is up. I installed in this position and made the terminal that lined up with the rotor #1 wire. Installed plugs in the following firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4, clockwise around the DUI.
Having never done this before I can’t rule out that I’ve misinterpreted the instructions and have done something incorrectly. Any thoughts or suggestions to continue troubleshooting would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/suggestions.

I didn't see you mention TDC on compression stroke. Timing marks will line up twice, compression and exhaust stroke.

check to see if you've blown the fuses... 15amp IMO is low... I'd go for a 30 amp fuse and 40amp relay. the 180* out, yeah I've done that before so I'm sure other will to, like Explorer said, make sure it's on the compressison stroke, while running the engine, put your thumb over the spark plug hole, you'll feel air forcing it's way out, then line up the timing mark.

GL, let us know if you find anything else...

Another thing to check is if you have 12v to the distributor while cranking. I put a DUI in recently that wouldn't fire because I (stupidly) hooked the relay up to the accessory circuit instead of ignition circuit. It had power with the key on, but once it cranked, there was no power.

Thank for the suggestions. I wasn't 100% positive I was at TDC on the compression stoke so I pulled the DUI and started from scratch. It took a bit to get the oil pump shaft to line up correctly, but once I got it to seat and re-wired it fired up on the first try. I'm pretty sure I was 180 degrees out they way it sounded when I tried to start it. Bet I don't do that again.

Again, thanks for the responses and here is a shot of the installed DUI. Won't get to cruise around and try it out until I get the shocks and coil spings replaced: front it is up with the tires off. One spring off, one to go...
