duraspark 2 on 68 200

The start position of ignition switch sends full voltage to coil to start then goes thru the ballast wire/resistor for running. The stock coils are marked "must use ballast resistor". After market coils can be used, usually have internal resistor.

I fried a MSD Blaster 2 coil in less than a day by bypassing the resistor...

I'm using an Accel Super Coil with external resistor. Maybe that is how I'm running without the pink wire. Either way, it ran fine.

You can run any coil you want. You just have to make sure if it needs the external ballast resistor. Stock Ford wiring used a pink resistor wire. Look up a wiring diagram for your vehicle. As stated above, you can even use a different ignition box. The dizzy is just a trigger for the spark. I use the whole system due to price and availability of parts. There may be better systems, but not at the Duraspark price.

there is a write up or two in the swap in the small six tech stickys. I bypassed the pink resistor then use CI's control box with external resistor. Check it out;.
