I have been looking at doing the duraspark conversion and noticed that there seems to be several spark control modules that all look the same have the same connectors but have differnt part numbers and quite a range in price. There are some that are around $19 and some $200. Typical seems to be $70-90. Does anyone know what the differnce is? I assume that the $90 is what is needed and thats why people do the GM module thing. From the looks and the bad instructions on the boxes it looks like the $20 ones should work. Was there some emissions thing and thats why there are differnt ones for differnt years? I have been using 74-78 maveric for the look ups.

Thanks

Yes, there are several types of Duraspark control boxes on the market. I don't know which part numbers are which, but they can be identified by the color of the grommet/strain relief that connects the wiring to the control box. The 'BLUE ' grommet is the most common and also the one that most people will want to use as it is the 49 state emissions version. The ones with the red, brown, or yellow grommets are either California emmisions or special engine models. Since the volumes are highest on the blue, I'm guessing the blue is the cheapest too, but you will have to look at one to be sure.

When I replaced the one on my 82' f100 it was about $20.00.IIRC it was a blue strain.
