Duraspark dizzy curving

Has anyone messed with the springs to any effect? The car bogs off the line until I wake it up with some rpms or more input. It only does this under mild pedal pressure-if I take off normally from a stop, it's okay and if I floor it, it's okay which leads me to believe that the curve in the dizzy doesn't like this cam. I ordered an adjustable vac advance for it, but haven't gotten it yet. I'm guessing that a softer spring would let the centrifugal advance react quicker?

Interesting, sounds a lot like my problem. How much initial advance are you running and is the centrifugals set to 10 or 15 degrees?

John, try this link for duraspark recurving info. The weaker springs can be purchased from summit for the ford distributors.
The curve total really depends on your engine combination. For example with my engine i have 12 distributor degrees X 2 for crankshaft total 24 + 14 initial=38 total centrifigul advance all brought in @ 2800 rpms.

Howdy John:

Two thoughts-
Your accelerator pump might be getting weak. How long since a carb rebuild?

You might try more initial advance to assess the problem.

What cam, distributor and carb are you working with?

Recurving the mechanical advance rate for a quicker curve is a good idea. So is an adjustible vacuum advance cannister, but neither will effect the soft leave you described. That will either be the carb transition-from-idle circuit or the initial advance setting.

Keep the infor comming.

Adios, David

The carbs are new-cam is a 264 dur. with 444 lift. The initial is set at 12 degrees right now. I'll have to look inside the dizzy to find out what it is set at-don't ya have to grind somthin to move the mechanical?
