duraspark ll ignition question

I have a duraspark ll ignition on my 1978 250. The ignition module seems to get warm and I'm not sure what would cause that? I ordered and installed a new resistor that my vehicle called for. It is cooler but still heats up after a longer drive.

My other truck equiped with the same duraspark ignition stays cool no matter how long its driven?

You should check and or clean all your grounds to the chassis and body from the battery back

I read they do get warm, and to mount them on heat dissipating bodies, like a heat sink.

^^this^^ ignition modules do run warm, some warmer than others, but they should still be comfortable to touch. if they try to burn your fingers when you touch them, then likely the module is beginning to fail.

It's warm to the touch, but not uncomfortably so. I guess I will just buy a spare to keep with me and see how long it lasts.

I think I will go through and clean the grounds too, sounds like a good idea anyway.

Little late to the party, but figured I'd add a couple comments. The resistive wire/ballast resistor is wired to the coil, not the module so it should make no difference. Airflow is key on these modules, heat kills. I always space them off the mounting surface with washers. Ford placed these in different locations depending on vehicle/year, some better than others.
