Hi everybody,
I am a brand new member of this forum and this is my first post. I have a question I am hoping someone can help me with. I have a 66 Mustang with an early 60's 170 c.i. 6 cyl equipped with solid lifters. The original 200 c.i. engine was swapped out years ago. I recently rebuilt the 170 and now I need to adjust the valves but have no idea what the feeler gauge readings are for the intake and exhaust valves. Does anybody out there know what the correct specs are??? :?:

Welcome to the forum!!

First off, just out of curiousity, check the casting number on the head and the block. The head's number is on the top of the intake log between the carb and the firewall. The block's number is a little harder to spot. You need to get a flashlight (just like CSI - do you ever wonder why they just don't turn on the lights? - but I digress) and look sort of in front of the starter and behind the where the exhaust manifold meets the exhaust pipe.
This has nothing to do with you valve lash, I'm just curious. BUT if the block is new enough you may have hydraulic lifers. But you said you rebuilt it - do you know for certain that you have solid lifers?

The factory setting for valve lash is .016 on both intake and exhaust valves..

Good Luck
