EGR and fuel economy.

I've been toying with the idea of going with a junkyard TBI set up... But since I don't have any of the speed sensing (and other) gizmos on the '79, that may be more work than it's worth.

It seems like in 1970 Ford adopted a policy of 10mpg straight across the board. It took them about three years to perfect this policy but they were suscessful for the most part.

Too Funny!

It took me a long time to get my 400 in my 79 F-250 to get 14 MPG and it didn't stay there long.

Different brands/heat ranges of spark plugs made HUUUUUGE differences!
(Currently using autolite platinum)

I'm getting about 12.5 pretty regularly with it. Another guy I know can't get his mileage over 10 mpg to save his soul.

I would bet my lucky penny that you could take that engine and install some Aussie 2V heads and some pistons for proper quench resulting in the same compression and degree the cam for optimum torque, maybe recurve and rejet, and it would get 16 to 18 mpg.

You are more than welcome to try!

even 16 MPG from a 400M in a 4WD F-250 is asking too much, IMHO.
(is 4-speed, tho....)
