Electronic Ignition Options

I'm putting my car onto straight LPG soon (already on dual fuel) and I want to get rid of all the EFI wiring from the engine bay and just keep it simple.

I've got a Pre '86 carby XF engine bay wiring loom which I'm pretty sure will match striaght up, I have an XD and an XE electronic distributor, both which need rebuliding.....been quoted $150 - $450 for rebuild and recurve to suit LPG.

What i'm thinking is if an MSD (or similar) can be wired stright onto the XF dizzy (full elec) this would be a better option. Can the MSD be wired up to the XF full elec dizzy?

Also are there any electronic ignition control modules out there that have a boost reference? As I'm thinking of strapping a supercharger on at a later date, and if the ignition module can handle boost, there will be basically nothing else to do but strap it on and plumb it up.

Any thoughts welcomed.

The Bosch distributor from the XD-XE series is great. Blown cars with not much more than a recurve and a Super Coil run them in the tens and elevens. $450 if it's on the dyno ain't bad.

Why buy an MSD6AL and still have a dizzy with a worn shaft, etc? There's no need to import a US trend for swapping these in, as the Duraspark is inferior to the Bosch from the word go.

What about pillaging a setup off a V6 Commy - at least it will be common parts and not too dear?

Sure, I'm biased - in favour of a proven good product. There are more than a few bridges to cross for forced induction when the time approaches.

???????????? i,m playing arround with some EFI setup for my 200 ci , with LPG direct liquid injectie , not in gas form injecting !!!
lots of thing to do and figure out , but i,m gone try it , iwant to see how it will do , working ore not , [ thats why i need that EFI intake , addo ] btw the problem is , must got it firts build into the car for testing , is there a way to test a full efi setup out of the car ? just the injectors to inject , see how there frozen up , and how some more volt will do ?
i now 8) , got some stupid idee,s sometime,s , but always make them treu , working ore not ! i,m more into doing and see how it works then dreaming of it ! i,m lucky to have all the machines and materiaal and people who knowing electric stuf !

What I meant is wiring the MSD (or similiar) control box to my EFI XF dizzy that is currently in the car and in perfect condition.

But if the XD/E dizzy is as good I wont bother. But what about adding a charger later down the track?

I have both an XD and XE dizzy here, what is the difference betwen the two? I can see minor differences in the body of the dizzy, but thats all. Is the module different at all, and if so which is better?

I don't know about external control mechanisms for early XD/XE distributors. But why do you think Mike Vine used Water/methanol injection on his Turbo XE/XF's?. Possibly so that the ignition could remain the same?

AIT just used the stock distributor on a petrol Turbo engine.

As for what you can do cost effectively, I'd keep it stock and add an anti detonation water injection system. And look at the guys with tough boosted sixes, and ask them. George and MTS-250turbo, pcman.

The main reason I am looking at going for a programmable ignition like the MSD 6AL or Crane Hi6, is beacause of the ease to update to a blower later on, and If the prices for a rebuild/recurve or the programmable ignition are close I dont see the point in sticking with old tech.

The other reason I want the programmable ign is beacuse its easy (less costly) to make any changes to the curve, etc, and its gots built in rev limiter.

But again, I'm not well educated in this area so I am open to suggestions and comments.
