engine id

Hi guys,
is there a chart someplace, that anyone knows of, that can help u identify your engine ?

I'm not able to ask the person about the engine from where it came, since time has passed. Anyways, I found some info on the id of cylinder heads and the one on my engine, said its a cylinder head from a 65 200cid
but, I was reading in the manual that in those yr models, they had 4 main caps but I flippt my engine and it has 7 caps- like was the 200- 6 that used to be in my 67.

So is there a chart I can use to help identify the yr of the engine itself etc ? Thanx in advance ^_^

Hi guys,

We have a chart in our handbook.

First Alex, your '65 200 could easily have 7 main bearings. FoMoCo did a rolling change to be rid of the four bolt main 200's, so there isn't a set date for 4 or 7 bearings. Most 4 bearing engines were used up in '62 to '64 Falcons and Fairlaines. The cast code on the block (just in front of the starter) would be C2OE-6015-C, or C3DE or C4DE. The "d" indicate the part was first used in a Falcon. The "o" indicates a Fairlaine.

Next Bob, your E1BE-6015-BB is as MustangSix told you; it is a low-mount starter (the starter is mounted below the oil pan line) 200. The key identifer between 200's and 250's is the water pump. A 200 has three bolts attaching the waterpump to the block and a 250 has four bolts.

Good Luck

Ty,
I know my topic is a few days old but, I still have found nothing to decode.
I have my id number now
C5DE-6015-H
Can u break that down for me to tell me what those things mean ?
I am guessin the first four go along w\ the head, like
"65", first used on "Falcon" and "Engine"
but what does the 6015 and H stand for ?

Alex,

You've got the C5 and DE right. The 6015 is a block casting, just like 6090 is a head casting.

And now the bummer... We wish we knew what the last digit on heads and blocks stood for. We know it is the engineering code for some sore of change, but what the changes are - we just don't know YET.

My info says the last number is the revision code. Like a C6DE-6015-B would mean that that block was the second revision of that part number.

And when they run out of letters they are supposed to repeat alphabet with a second letter. As in C6DE-6015-AA would be the 27th revision. I have no idea what the revisions are.

Some are as simple as moving a mounting boss or adding a bolt hole.

O ok, thanx, if thats true Anlu, then I guess that would mean mine is revision 8, I had jus noticed earlier that in bobs case, he had ........ bb
and when Six said its a big bell, I jus thought the letters might have stood for some kind of word id. I know usually Hipo is high performance, HO high output, hm, I wonder if my "H" stands for Ham?, lol, but thanx
