You will get more responses if you post your question in the 144 - 250 small six performance section viewforum.php?f=1

It should be a 200 in a 78 Fairmont. Should be a flat wheel and 9 inch clutch. Rarely would a flywheel need more than just a light cut to resurface along with a fresh clutch the ring gear can be replaced or if on a very tight budget it can sometimes be flipped over. What area are you located?

8) the six that was installed in all fairmonts was the 3.3l(aka 200) inline six we all know and love. it does however sound like someone swapped in a later six since it sounds like you have the low mount starter, as the high mount starter bells were all four bolt as i recall. it also means that you have the flat flywheel.

According to the ford bellhousing wiki the Bigbell 200 started to appear in 78 but take that with a grain of salt if its the low mount starter (starter around the oil pan) its probably a big bell

Stock SROD'S had the later 3.03 136 teeth flywheel. Part number has been listed before on Wednesday, ‎23 ‎March ‎2011, ‏‎4:45:23 p.m, but is srod Fox bell D9BC-6392 CA

If you check MPGmustangs posts, you'll see that there isn't a lot of difference between the 1978 and the 1967 bells, and he uses a 1978 block in his Mustang anyway.

You don't have many limits parts wise.

:hmmm: Have you considered a Durango utility instead of a Courier pick-up?

hello every body well this is update, i do have the small 200 ford six cyl. got a new starter an will be installing that on 1-6-12, anyway i am at wits end, have been looking all over the net, for a flywheel ring, autozone o'reilly, rose motor Napa bumper to bumper, and the other parts supply houses here in Hutchinson Kansas cannot get me that ring, so i searched the internet found a parts locator site, they is a bunch of ass ****** the cheapest i found was $145.00 living on a disability every month cannot find the parts i need, even used.

so here goes !!!

1979 Ford Fairmont FOR SALE or trade for small pickup or engine for my 1985 suburban SBC 350

The body is ratty, the engine and tranny are in good shape, has operational cruise control that works, there is a AC unit, needing R12 or retrofitted for R134A. very good shape 14 tires

my starter mounts just above the oil pan and bottom of the engine, two bolt mount;
also you will find this very amusing to: :duh:
i was using too big of a battery :bang: for this small ford starter, i was using the interstate workaholic 1200 cca battery oppppppppppppppps :oopsie: :nono:
furthermore i don't have the necessary equipment to install this ring, so i will actually need the flywheel and ring together so the first of February if you have such an item i would gladly prepay for the part btw: FYI: i can tell that i have a flat flywheel and NOT the dog dish when the starter is removed

this car is still for sale or the engine and transmission has the small sized black 200, with a 4 speed OD transmission, with a cable clutch

if anyone interested, a local man has a 1979-80 ford ranger maybe courier pick up with the small 4 banger any one interested contact me mister_joshusa at yahoo, or pm me here
thanks for all the support fellows

:hmmm: I need the cruise control, exhast back to the cat, bellhousing, clutch, gearbox, a stock drive shaft I can shorten, and the 3.08:1 6.75" diff for my 1982 Mustang. Plus radiator, A/c, All emission gear.

And all you just want is a 1972 to 1983 Ford Courier/Mazda B1800-B2000, the US/Aussie/Kiwi compact pick-up built for Ford by Toyo Kogyo (based on the Mazda Rotary Engined Pick Up)?

I have plenty of rong hand drive Mazda versions around, any thing from 15 US dollars to about 1000US dollars. You don't want a pre 1977 version, they are 4" shorter in the cabin and just too cramped for most americans
From 1971, this NZ Mazda B1500
