Engine Oil

That picture brings to mind an old saying about oil leaks:

"It's not an oil leak...it's a built in rust inhibiting system"

or...

"It's just marking it's territory...what's wrong with your wimpy car that it doesn't?"

My top two pet peeves about cars.

#1 - Exhaust leaks.
#2 - Fluid Leaks.

I would rather have a car w/ beat paint and a few dents that didn't leak a drip than one with a perfect body and brand new paint that had a leaky rear main.

Altho, in actuality - I would take the second, yank the motor, and fix the main :)

Then I don't have to worry about you stealing my old cars then.

If they ain't leaking...I start to worry that something is wrong.

My truck leaks every fluid like that is what it was made to do. In fact, if I don't drive it for a month, so much oil leaks from the valve cover to exhaust manifold that it looks like the truck is on fire (and no, I can't tighten the bolt anymore without snapping it). My power steering pump keeps everything in the lower part of the suspension lubricated. About every 3 weeks of driving, it need about half a bottle of fluid. Funny part, it seems to leak worse when i don't drive it as often. On the plus side, the paint is in great shape!

My 65 has a leaky rear main seal, but that may have been just a back seal job on the oil pan as since I've changed the oil pan, I don't leak nearly as much oil anymore.

My Volvo and 99 mustang still don't leak at all.

If your concern is zinc (which is a whole other debate) pretty much any oil you can buy retail in the US that is likely to end up on the road no longer has any useful amount of zinc in it anymore including the diesel oils.

I'll have to disagree on this. The information that I saw (somewhere on BITOG.com) stated that the ZDDP content of the latest formulation of diesel oils is still more than double the old "car oil" spec.

We can safely assume that you've never owned a Triumph or an MG then.
