Anybody got any tips on seating the exhaust donut on the manifold to the lead pipe? It always frustrates me, getting it seated right. They never seem to go back together as easy as they come apart!
Make sure that the pipe is pretty free-moving, so you can wiggle it around. Tighten the pipe down, there might even be a torque spec, and then tighten the clamp down on the block afterwards. I haven't really had a problem with it, so just giving a thought.
Yeah, it took me a while but I got it. Patience and perserverance. The studs were missing from my salvage engine's exhaust and I thought I could get it on with bolts. I've done it before on my old truck's 302 but my Mustangs pipe (recently replaced) was not bent at quite the right angle so I had too much trouble starting the bolts. Put new studs and just finessed it a little bit at a time (and with a lot grunting) to hold the pipe at the right angle while turning each nut a little at a time to keep it straight and even. No leaks though so I guess I got it done. Thanks.
