Exhaust Manifold

There is a line on my Autolite 1100 (I think) that is blocked off. My autoshop teacher said that is should be connected to my exhaust manifold for the choke. I found a picture of where the hole should be but then I look at my manifold and there isn't one there. Maybe some one welded it up or did they make exhaust manifolds without the hole? Anyway, what should I do about this?

i read that if you run a tube next to the exhaust...just so heat goes up it it will work

dont you have a place on the rear of the carb that holds a hose that goes to heater box? that will help too

worst comes to worst, convert to a manual or electric choke....no big deal...

You can buy the tube from a parts house (MotorMite / HELP! Section), wrap it around the manifold once, and cut off the rest.

Huntington Beach, CA.... that doesn´t sound like too cold of a place - you are probably just fine without that heater tube.

If your teacher is right...then the line is just an empty tube that carries temperate air to the choke sensor so that it can be full choke when cold and open when warm.

The choke tube in your original design was connected to the exhaust manifold to carry the hot air to the choke sensor. if the connection to the manifold is gone/missing then sometimes if you fix the tube next to the manifold, or next to a header pipe, or if necessary the heater hose...then the air in the tube will be heated and again operate the choke sensor. If you leave it off..then the choke sensor will operate based on the temp of the intake manifold and maybe run rich more than needed.

You could also install a manual choke if you so desire.
