exhaust manifold?

This would appear to be a manifold that would have emissions-era cat attached to it.
It has a 4 1/2" exhaust flange!
I would've jumped on it if I was a fabricator type guy, but I'm not.

So, for discussion purposes, would this be of any value in a turbo, or any other type exhaust set-up?

I have one sitting on my floor.

I have also wondered about using that design.

The biggest problem in my mind is getting it to seal. The big hole is for a light off catalytic converter and IIRC the can sits on the edge of the hole and a big ring comes down and bolts to the studs and clamps the can to the manifold.

If you could find some way to make a big heavy cast steel plate that would fit the hole and have a T3 flange on one side it could possibly work.

This place can sell the flanges for a t3 but your on your own to make a adapter plate for that manifold.

Well,

By milling off that sealing suface so you have a flat piece to start with, and then welding or brazing on a T3/T4 flange, you could certainly turn that into a turbo manifold.

That is basically what I did, but with a '68 Manifold.

If anyone wants me to convert their exhaust manifold into a turbo manifold, just let me know.

The only problem with this approach is where it locates the turbo - it can cause clearance problems.
