I can't see a 351 being THAT hard on fuel... I can drive my 460 like I stole it and still get 12 mpg(23.54l/100KM) if I take it REALLY easy on the go pedal, I get 23 mpg(12.28L/100KM.) Now, If I drive it at 170 KPH and hold it there, those 71L gas tanks(it has 2) won't get me very far at all....

Trouble is lack of dyno tuning or appropriate cam/carb determination. Not to mention realistic gearing, a good tranny and sensible tyres.

I have seen many many people pissfart around with carbs, plugs and whatnot when they aren't addressing the core issues. It doesn't help that good (= productive) dyno sessions are a rip-off.

Just look at how many serious parts are sold in the stores, compared to filters, carb gaskets, plugs / leads, spray cans and chrome stuff.

There are very few places on the street a built motor can really stretch its legs. Even out of town, the pigs are waiting too often. So it all becomes pretty much posturing or self amusement. Certainly with age I lean towards the latter.

Also, direct experience of friends losing genuine Falcon GTs (one XR, one XA), says these cars (specifically the drivelines) attract unwanted attention. Both vehicles were ridiculously well secured, too.

The F-series that actually impressed me the most, was one I saw last year. A 1967? F100 SWB 240 driven by probably the original owner. Bone stock. Would have made a great picture. The others are just tools, like a shovel or a saw. What you need to do the job.

And that's my 2¢ on the subject of bent motors and F-series. Thad has some good comments on this matter, too.

Adam.

fordclevo ------------ im a young aussie..... miles, gallons means nuthin to me ---------------- hows about liters, kilometers! CHEERS

Ah, I'm 33, and grew up on metrics. Then I discovered 8 things that changed my life:

1. CUBIC INCHES (one Litre..um liter, is 1000cc or 61.0 cubes)

2. FOOT POUNDS (one Newton Meter Nm, is about 0.737 lb-ft of torque)

3. CUBIC FEET PER MINUTE ( Never convert to litres per second buddy)

4. INCHES ( 25.4 mm is 1 inch )

5. HORSE POWER (one KiloWatt is 1.3404 bhp )

6. US GALLONS (15 Litres/100 km is not 18.8 imperial mpg, its 15.1 US mpg)

7. FEET ( 1320 feet is 402.34 meters... you'd get quartered in the States)

8. Miles per hour ( 160.934 km/h is 100 mph)

8. JESUS ( another thing that Americans discovered!)

Sh*t Matt, now I'll have to use metrics on the Aussie site, American English on the FSP/144-250/240-300/Hardcore etc forums. And my spelling wasn't very hot to begin with!!!!.

And it was all based upon how long a blokes foot was, many many years ago, in a kingdom long befallen, whereas the metric system is based upon something that (hopefully) wont change, the circumference of the planet earth :)

Just dont become one of these gits who buys a 4wd when they simply don't need it. Like 90% of 4wd's sold these days will never even leave the bitchemen.

People like that are always the stupidist drivers on the road, and because of the size of thier vehrcle, they are the most dangerous drivers too.

Thats why I always carjack Hummers in Grand Theft Auto 3

Seriously, 4WD drivers usually have no idea about people in cars. Coming up to intersections, like Stop Signs, I'm turning left, they're turning right. those A$$holes are always right on the white line, which means I cant see whats coming. Even though I think Paul Keating is a bit of an idiot, I hear him when he says they should be taxed off the road.

Matt,

Im a young Ausie too, Im 18 and live in Queensland, I don't know what MPG is in l/km, I have always used MPG even though I was taught metric at school. Probably coz grandpa rated his 1969, 240 F100 in Miles per gallon, it stuck. The 351 C is a real gas guzzler if you hot it up and drive it hard, like I said, 8mpg when going flat chat. Take it easy, don't use quite so many engine mods, you get better fuel econonmy - simple. (PS the sound sight and feel of a late'60' - 70's bent eight F-series or Falcon beats any Holden Commodore or late model plastic Falcon in my book)

Me too. Sixes are a nice thang, but uneven rumble of a Clevo is a one B-A-D addiction, even if they do "drink off" a bit!

lol, I have come close to buying an WB ute with a 308, and a Valiant Regal with the 265. Both times I was standing at the ATM, card in hand, heart racing, and it's only then that the mind kinda whispers "sure you can buy it, but can you afford to run it?". The reply is always, "NO, shutup!"...heheh

lol.. Clinton just bought a WB Panelvan, 202 + Traumatic + LPG..

Its an awesome car to cruise in, if he pulls the mattress out of the back and put some seats in, it'll make a wicked pub cruiser too!

Is that the guy that I thought his name was Cliff?

I would have gone the HZ. Then you can get a 186 instead. But PV's are cool.

Has he checked the oil pump in this one?....hahaha

haha yeah, thats the dude :D

Its just occured to me how gutless they are - its got a panelvan ratio rear end with LSD, flat stick in second it wouldnt even make 50km/h sweat going up gooseberry road hill (the blue falcon would do around 105)! Still, it'd beneficial, since hes only got one point left!

hehe, and me wanting to get rid of my XD Falcon carby to him

I dunno about oil pump.. but if he siezes this one, I'll certainly think about getting it off him cheap, and doing what it takes to put a boosted 292 Chevy into it! And then I'll get a mural airbrused on the side.. Havent worked out what to do with the cargo area, but there'll be a small camping fridge somewhere in there for sure 8)

It'll be like that 4-runner that Dave was forever working on!

Cargo area?
CARGO AREA?
CARGO AREA???

What kind of red blood courses your veins, m'boy?

Its still Iron based, I can assure you of that

Right now, I'm leaning on an inflatable mattress, to keep the old girl looking respectable! Did I mention what sort of cargo I'll be carrying? (the curtains are staying!!) :D

NEVER!!! I thought u blokes were ford men?? U can make 1 mighty fine shagin wagon out of an F100 or a V8 Falcon pannel van. With that you can fit the 351 Cleveland, toploader and 9" diff, thatd beat a 186, 202, 253 or 308 with a turbo 400 or traumatic and a salsubury anyday!!

I started in the back of a 1300 Escort Van, and propsed to me girl. Then moved to the front bench of my XE and got three kids out of it. Fordclevo works out in the tray. But always in a Ford.

My granmothers maiden name was Holden.

Disco' and the Silver bullet have also shared there dark, deap secretes.

IF YOU GUYS LIKE MOPAR AND GM STUFF SOOO MUCH, GET INTO AN AUDIOSLAVE CD (THERE LATEST VIDEO HAS A C-10 CHEVY PICKUP), TUNE OUT TURN OFF AND GO TO A MOPAR OR GM WEB SITE!

well.. One of these days, I'm gonna get a panno. And when that happens, it'll likely be an ex ambo, with an EFI 460, bored and stroked to some insane 515+cid. or something like that. LPG will be a must I'm afraid...

lol. I'll also have to locate someone to do an airbrushing for me on the side. Cant have a f$^k truck if it doesnt look the goods! On the upside, with a decent tow hitch, it'll pull more than just chicks

a mate of mine just had a rolling XB panno crushed!...... coulda been a good starting point :)_..... oh well he had stripped everything off that he could
