factory divided exhaust ports

Hello, I am new to the forum but have a question. I recently removed a 200 six from a parts car. Upon removing the exhaust manifold found that the 3 & 4 exaust ports that are normally not divided were, this is not a port divider, but part of the casting. The casting shows it to be a 68 vintage head. It was a Fred Jones rebuild. Anybody seen one of these before, I have been working with these engines for over 20 years and have never seen this. Thanks for your input. Mark

are you sure it isnt a port, cause i have never heard of a head that came with the ports already seperated. Could you post some pictures of the ports

I can say Fred Jones a remeufacture company once located in Oklahoma didnt do such modifiecations. But I would like to see pics of the head.
There are tales of second party manufacture doing mods to these machines for ford as comercial engines... Like Fleet vehicles. and such.

I found a retired US Mail truck converted to a icecream truck with a 3/4 ton suspention and a little 200 six in it....you never know.

Let see the pics. and casting numbers.

Howdy guys,

I was kind of skeptical, but here are the pictures, and all I can say is "I don't know" and "Never say 'Never' when it comes to FoMoCo". At first I thought it's a piece welded in, but the corner radius is just too nice. Wouldn't a hot rodder have removed the heat-riser vanes (for factory carb heat) for smoother flow? Also look at the LOWER left side of the left port - there a ridge of flashing casting left there.

Back in the day, there were LOTS of header manufactures. Can you imagine a header flange with a large 3/4 opening (like a factory cast iron exhaust manifold has)? Then this divider would make sense.

Can you also imagine FoMoCo expermenting to reduce emissions? I do know there was a Capri (Mercury's fancy Mustang) of about 79-80-81 that had a "Police Pursuit" engine. It came stock with a Holley/Weber two barrel. - and Who Knows What Else!

Like I said - I don't know! I'm willing to learn new stuff.

Well the pictures are awefully fuzzy, but if that was welded or brazed in, who ever did it took painstaking efforts to make it look cast.

i took some time to clean it up with a pressure washer this weekend. and it still looks cast that way. I will have it tanked and get some better pics. i also think this was an emmisions mod if it was Factory. thanks for all of your input. does anyone out there make the adapters for a ford 2100 carb on a machined late 200 or 250 head? i have access to a hoizontal mill. i would love to buy one. thanks again. mark

That is Impressive .... I would like to think there are others around like it if it is cast, and it probley is...just another peice to do more research on...

As for the Police Persuit webber conversions, Its like Big Foot. Unlit I see one its still a myth... I havent even found any documentation on these...You would think there would be something.

keep use posted on what you find out on this head..maybe ford had some Numbers to prove the efficentcy of the divider...

I have seen cast iron style headers for ford 200's but they are rare as well. Maybe all these parts have a common origan.

Best of luck

did you get anymore info on this head? did anybody run the casting numbers?

did it get cleaned up any more?

Frank

Sorry I have not gotten back, things have been CRAZY!! The casting # is as follows C8DE - 6090- B Which is a 68 Falcon Cyl head 2nd desighn change. Nothing to show any difference than any other head, however after pressure washing it is clear that this is a casting. Im sending it out for hot tanking with another head soon. Ill keep you posted.

Find a friend with a vertical mill and make your own! :D

well, its been bout a hundred years ago, and my memory is AWFULLY fuzzy now and i could very easily be wrong ----but it seems that once upon a time way back in those dark reaches of what i call a mind---i remember seeing some 144 heads that had all six exhaust ports. let me know if im wrong.

but there is an article on this site that clearly shows a 6 port 144 head---

HIGHLY modified head. The whole side is milled off!!

Not even remotely close to stock, that one....

well ok---my eyes are as old and worn out as my engine lmao cant see like i used to and the pics looked kinda fuzzy to me. but, hell, it was worth a shot right? if that wasnt it then i have no idea wacha goth there hoss.

It seams like someone would manufacture a plate similiar to the hilborn peice and a manifold to bolt to that and eliminate the log. There would definitly be a market for it. Just a thought

They're on ebay all the time. Problem is they usually have to be furnace brazed on. They usually have triple SU manifolds on them.

The interesting thing to me is that if this is a rare - but factory - casting there probably are many others out there that haven't been found. It's like a misprinted penny that has no additional intrinsic value but is worth far above it's face value to the few odd (?!) people interested in it's uniqueness.
