factory rebuild ethics question

hey y'all. I recently installed a rebuilt 200 cid into my 64' comet, purchased from Recon Inc. Some heavy lifter noise ensued, bringing to my attention that the heads are not getting any oil flow, not good. anyway, took it down to a "certified" mechanic as directed by the warrenty dept, who confirmed my suspisions of a faulty or improperly installed rear cam bearing. Not having further use of an appropriate shop space, I'm opting to have my mechanic re-do the install, which I supposedly will be re-imbursed for after they recieve and verify my old motor was f™™™ed. Whew!!! ok, here's the problem:
Upon initial startup the motor heated up enough to pop their little over heat indicator tab on the side of the block (got a faulty thermostat out of the box, no shit. . .). This could'nt have anything to do with the heads, But my mechanic hint's heavily at the possibility they could use that to screw me somehow. So I pose now a question to the more informed and experienced masses. What are these guys on the level? Should I be gettin ready to eat it?

No. If the cam bearing is indeed maligned, then that's it.

It's a chicken and egg situatation. An over heat is second to a bearing problem.

Check also that the heads rear drivers side oil relief passage, which must be left clear, is still able to transfer oil. That can be a coomon problem too.

Relax, there is too much knowledge for you to get the run around from them.

My experience in this field is rather limited.
However, what I found is that once the rebuilder gets another shop involved, they try their darndest to push things off on that shop from then on.
I'd insist on a whole new engine plus the install cost.
Plain and simple.
If they balk, go to small claims court in your jurisdiction and also contact your state Attorney Generals office's division of consumer protection.
That is assuming your state does have these avenues of recovery.
Local judges don't like the little guy getting shafted very much.
They, the judges, also don't like the big rebuilders sending an attorney into their court to do battle with the little guy.
Keep your papers and make notes every time you call, speak or discuss this matter with ANYONE.
If it sounds like I've been there, well, let's say 'don't do as I did, do as I say'.

this sounds like good advise. Spoke w/ my mechanic and got him online, along w/ a few other more "qualified" people who'd help me out if need be. By god we'll give em' what for!!!!! Thanks for the info.
