Hey guys

I have a 1985 XF Falcon, currently has a 3speed manual column shift. I have a floor mounted 4speed manual out of another car waiting to go in, now what I need to know is, what is interchangable from the 2 gearboxes? Is the clutch different? What else?

If anyone also knows what I need from the donor car to accompany the 4speed transplant it would be great if you could tell me.

Thanks in advance

Hello! When I converted my (auto) XE from column shift to floor shift I changed the entire steering column. Also, when it was time to cut the floor there was already an 'indentation' in the floor pan/hump showing where to cut - it was quite easy! All I needed then was to screw down the support section for the gear shifter and the rest is history! My mate had an XD with a 4 speed BW box and the gear shifter area looked the same as mine.

To help you cut out the floor, use a thin 4 inch angle grinder disk - they are a little bit flexible and will cut around VERY gentle corners - any good tool shop should have them, they cost about $4 each - you will need a couple to do the job. I hope I was of some help.

Are the centre consoles on floor shift manual and automatic XFs the same?

If it is any help, I know the XD / XE centre consoles are different for manuals and autos.. I think the hole for the manual shifter is smaller and in a slightly different place.

Just did the conversion, and the car goes so much harder! 100% Improvement!

We've also got an EFi motor and 4 speed to stick in the XF to replace the dead carby motor and autobox. Should be a lot niv\cer to drive after.
