First Roadtrip

Hey,
We took the old girl with the new Duraspark on her first road trip (over 200 mi) and she ran very well. Went to Lincoln NE, made lots of stops and drove around in traffic with zero serious problems. From there we went to a lake in South Bend NE, partied and drove home.
The wife even made the comment on how smoothly the car rides and drives. That alone made my day as she is not real supportive of my toys.
However, I did discover some oil usage (1 and 1/2 quarts) and the carb seems to weep after awhile so the wife was able to complain about the smell.
Well, the car is 42 years old, I haven't had it that long and I have lots of time to get her all slickered up.

Sounds like time for your regularly scheduled wife maintenance.

If she doesn't like the smell of gas, tell her to ride a bike.

cool
Not sure what car you have but you might check you gas tank sending unit. I have a Comet but the Falcons are the same the tank is actualy the bottom of the trunk... and sending unit is in the back of the tank not the top .. mine was leaking fuel if I put more than $5.oo in and it made it small real bad inside the car.. I couldn't find a gasket for it so I made one out of an old inner tube. No more leak no more smell..

It's a '65 Mustang and the carb is weeping at the bowl gasket. From the pieces I found in the trunk right after I bought the car, it looks like someone did a half ass job rebuilding the carb. Next project.......
Thanks for the suggestion though. I'm always ready to listen to anybody who has had similar trubs.

I would also check the trunk seal. If the seal is leaking you can pull in exhaust fumes while your running.

Have fun, Ric.
