Hi everyone, this is my first post here, please, go easy on the rookie? Heres my question, my friend and I are in the planning stages of building a 300 for tractor pulling, the class we will run in is pretty open, engine must be naturally aspirated, no nitro, and thats about it. Can you guys help us? The other tractors in the class are around the 350 to 400 cubic inch range, (at least the ones that don't blow apart!), they use updrafts carbs, (no rules against side drafts), and the top performers are running in the 5500 to 6000 rpm range. What parts, cranks, block, head, etc. should we get to start with? What cubic inch have the 300's been pushed to safely? We want to run in the rpm range with the rest of them, in this class high end rpms are what win. We are considering alcohol for fuel, but thats down the road, I guess, one step at a time. Any good advice you guys could throw our way, we will treasure, we want to fly the Ford 300 banner high, can you guys help, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

You want to run a 300" motor in a class with 400" engines where boost is a no-no?

IMO, if you want to be competitive, you'd better find another (bigger) engine, or find a class where the 300 has a better chance.

On the other hand, if you have 4K-5K dollars to spend, you could build a 350HP + 300" motor that could live around 6,000 rpms.

And for that same money, you could build a 500-600HP V8.

if your familiar with tractor pulling then you know theres only two ways to win get moving down the track fast before the weight boggs you down. or be strong enough to actually pull it. high rpm is where the first way lives, easier. but if you want to run a 300 the second is a better bet. (low rpm high torgue) but either way im with inlinner youd better have a fat wallet to make it work.
