No prizes for guessing. I'm looking for a reliable reference.

All part of the bellhousing caper.

So, XB? That would mean there are hydraulic single rail bellhousings.

BUT - were they only drilled for single rail, or drilled with the extra hole for the 3-speed as well?

Just wondering if there is a pretty rare bell out there...

Adam I don't know what yera it is from but my XW is running a single rail with hydraulic clucth.
Regards Dan

lots of wreckers would drill and tap an extra hole on a std 3 speed bell housing and then sell them as 4 speed housings, or multi fit.. cheers

Sorry guys first single rail was XA (1972) when the aussie 302 and 351 2vs were made.
As to bellhousings Ive never seen a factor dual pattern setup.

Never seen or heard of a rail in an XA, ever. Even the first of the XB's still had top loaders in them.

i have never seen a factory xa with a single rail.plenty of people put them in nowdays but not from new they were toploaders.

I just checked my XA-XB parts book....the XB was first to use the single rail, but the XB was released late '73. So '73 is it.
The '73 build GT still had the toploader.
