flowmaster 40 vs. 60

66 coupe, 200 eng., headers, 2" dual exhaust. I put a couple of Delta flow 40's on my car this weenend. They are a little too loud for my liking especially about 2500-3000 under load. Any of you who have used or heard the 40 series deltaflow and the 60 series deltaflow, how do they compare in real life? I've seen the website descriptions.

The 60 series is solely for sport compacts, meaning 4 cylinder cars, I used to have one on my Sentra (seriously  ). I would recommend the 50 series.

Is the 50 series noticeably quieter than the 40's? I was going to try them first, but they are longer than the 40's and it is a tight fit already. If they are closer to what I want, I'm willing to modify my piping.

50s still have the flowmaster drone at 2500RPM, but it is more subdued then 40s I have heard. Nice rumble at idle, crazy at WOT. Highway speeds with soundproof mats, can't hear the exhaust inside the car. But around town, they are a little loud for my taste. Maybe my ears are getting older. I'm tempted to put some resonaters on to get rid of the drone. Other then the drone, I love them.

Guys, do you have a balance tube or an x-pipe between the header outlets & the mufflers.
Doing that may take some or the offensive noise from the system.
Using the crossover or x-pipe the exhaust see's a larger system & will lessen the note of the exhaust tone. But keep your tube size at 2" for the most pleasing sound & performance. William

Sounds like it would be a great experiment. Take a system without an H or X pipe, test it at several RPM levels for interier noise, then install an H or X pipe and repeat the test. I'd do it, but I'm already under the gun to get my vert ready for the wife to drive.

wsa111, thanks for the balance tube suggestion. I welded a h-pipe into my system and it sure made a difference. My pipes run parallel to each other about one and a half inches apart from the header outlet back to where they separate to the two flowmasters, so my balance tube is only one and a half inches long and although technically an h-pipe it is almost an x-pipe in function. For anyone who is interested it quieted the flows noticeably and decreased the resonance and droning. The tone has lost a little of the bass but still sounds good. Im also going fabricate a very short resonator about six or 8 inches long and weld it in the middle of the tailpipe section and see what it does.

I installed an "X" pipe into my new exhaust. I am running a 351W w/shelby tri-y's into 2 & 1/2" pipes, through the "X" pipe, through "Raptor" performance mufflers, than through 2 & 1/2" tailpipes.

The sound level in the cabin is very low, but at the tail end it is a lot more pronounced.

So I believe that the installation of either an "X" or "H" pipe will not only "equalize" your exhaust but will also tone it down in the cabin.
