I just bought a rebuilt 200 shortblock with the E1BE suffix to put into my son's 63 Ranchero. It's basically just a stock rebuild, but if I can get a little more oomph then all the better. What head and intake set up would you recommend, and what tranny will I need to find to bolt up to this block? Is there a special C4 that I need, or will they all work?
Thanks,
Nik

8) first get a late model head as they have the largest intake valve. for the C4, you need the small behousing from a 64-67 C4, but any C4 trans wil bolt to the bellhousing. you will also need a new trans crossmember to replace the stock leaf spring mount. autokrafters carries the crossmember as does falconparts.com. you will also need to change the output yoke to match the C4.

E1 is a Big-bell 200. None of the 60's stuff will bolt up to the block. You need to find the bell for that block. Use www.car-part.com, you should be able to find something fast enough.

The ad said it was a big bell, I assumed he meant it had a bigger bellhousing. The bellhousing is the only thing that will be different then, right? I mean if I get a decent C4, all I need to do is get the different bellhousing and it will be o.k? This is my first 6 cylinder anything, so bare with me if I ask some dumb questions.
What casting number of head do I need to look for? Are there any vendors on here that sell rebuilt units? Any good intakes available for these small 6's?

Thanks,
Nik

Offy makes a 3x1 setup that bolts onto the stock intake log, you can buy it new at Summit. That ebay sale is just an assembled kit.

It appears to be an early-ish head. Note the small chambers. The glass carb bowl might be saleable (on the basis that you'll never get another two at the right price...) and then you could run all the same carb appearance.

Depending on the closing price, it may yet be a quick fix for some grunt.

I just got through swapping a 200 with a 3.03 manual 3-speed into a '62 Ranchero. See details here: http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31268

I saw that ebay auction, and I hate to say it, but an earlier (pre-79 or 80) block may have been a better choice, because of two possible issues:
1. Bellhousing - which I don't know about, by the above comments it may not be an issue. I do know that any bellhousing later than the dinky early (pre-66) will have the upper two bolts very close to the firewall. You can slide the engine forward on the mounts as long as the fan doesn't hit the radiator, or take a hammer to the firewall.
2. Low-mount starter - if the starter mounts to the block down low, it's likely to interfere with the steering center link - which can be fixed by swapping the centerlink from the top to the bottom of the draglink and pitman (?) arm. If it mounts up high just under where the exhaust manifold will go, there's no issue at all.

For other things you'll have to deal with, see my thread above. It's really a simple swap as far as the engine goes, the things that will need your attention center around the transmission. I stuck with a manual, but upgraded away from the itty-bitty 2.77 gearbox. What trans is in your '63?

As far as carbs go, I really like the Holley 5200 (aka Weber 32/36 DFAV). Probably have to do some rejetting, depending on where you get one from, but there's lots of info here on that.
