Ford factory dual fuel computer questions

Hi Everyone,

I was at the dealership yesterday and happened to see a '97 one ton truck that was set up from Ford with both propane and gasoline.
I asked them if there was a difference in the computers. They said there was but they didn't know what the difference was. There is also a different computer for the propane only trucks.
This is interesting because they still use the regular gasoline injection manifold.
Did Ford sell the 300 set up this way?
Would there be a way to take advantage of this?

It seems like there might be some thing usefull in this, but I just can't put it together.

there was somebody on FTE not too long ago who was wanting to chip a stock motor so that it could be switched from from gas to propane or ng, forgot which, thouoght it was prop though. dont know all the benefits of doing this, although one hta does come to mind is emmisions, a lot cleaner that way. ford never did set up the 300 for this type of duty, at least not here in america, which was the biggest market for it. both setups would use the same basic hardware, just some of the fittings would be a bit different.

In Australia, all six cylinder Falcons since 1999 have had additional ports to integrate LPG contol into the EEC computer control module.

Prior to that, Impco suplied an SDS-style piggy-back ECM which spliced into the open loop mode of the EFI system. Here in New Zealand, most LPG experts just have a solenoid/circuit breaker which stops the injectors spraying. Then there is a propane carb upwind of the EFI plenumb or throttle body, and this gets either set up using the stock mixture settings for LPG operation, or gets it's own ECM to deal with redarding the aggressive ignition curve most modern emmisions vehicles have. The systems cut in or out from one fuel to another is controlled by a switch or servo. Buick have been doing it for years on there V6 Propane versions.

Both Australian Ford and GM Holden use twin table Electronic Control Modules for there factory dual fuel vehicles. In the US, where post 1996 cars are OBD II equiped, I'd assume some dispensation to triggering a fault code is unexceptable, so Impco, OHG, or Century would have some kinda CARB Executive Order number on there dual fuel kits. Check with them. Propane use is something the EPA is keen to promote.
