Here's an eBay quest for all of you. This is an ad of FoMoCo's Hi-Po kit from way back in the day.

It didn't scan well, but you get the picture.

HiPerformanceKit.jpg

Starting on the left:
A new head - Don't you wonder what was done to it? Valves? Springs? Ports? Number of Carbs?
A new Drive Shaft - bigger universals?
Left top:
not sure what that oblong box is - a gasket?
Left bottom:
New oil pump - more volume? more pressure?
new distributor - centrifugal advance?
Gas line and fuel pump - more volume? more pressure?
Push rods, lifters, camshaft - what timing and lift?
Top right - a bunch of gaskets to put it all together.

It would be fun to just know what one of these cost back in the day. It would be even better to know the specifications of all this stuff.

Anyone have a better picture?

Dennis,

What kind of advertisement is that scanned out of?? Ford manual or old hot rod magazine, etc, etc??

I'll start going through my stuff!

Doug - You can find this 'ad' in Ray Miller's book, "Falcon - The New Size Ford" on page 133. In this book, the caption for the 'ad' reads,

"Introduced as a 1963 Accessory was an interesting High Performance Kit for the 170 Six engine. Consisting of a revised cam and valve train; increased capacity fuel system; special distributor and revised cylinder head, it also included a heavy duty driveshaft." The Ford part number for this 170 Hi-Po Kit is listed as C2DZ-68068-A.

Thanks!

What was the Ford "Hi-Po" parts outlet at the time?? Today we have Ford racing performance parts and it was known as Ford Motorsport before that....what was it before that or wasnt there one??

If there wasnt one, then it was done either through Bill Stroppe or Holman Moody, because they were the 2 "official" Ford subsidiaries that did the authorized parts & kits that you could get with a Ford official part number :D

Caroll Shelby was the other, but he didnt do anything with the 6's...

IIRC, the Ford hi-po outlet "at the time" was your local Ford dealer and the Ford Off-Highway Parts Catalog. 8)

Of course, there was the Ford Hi-Po 'kit' for the 427 pushrod engine (1964-66) that cost $2500 in '60s dollars - it was a large, T-shaped aluminum 2-piece casting, 2 cast-iron heads with overhead cams, a 6-foot-long chain with cam gears and crankshaft drive gears, an intake manifold and 2 four-bbl carbs. It took the 'street' 427 to the NASCAR SOHC dual-overhead-cam 427 level, a 7500 RPM, 700+ HP streetable monster. One of my friends has one of these in a '65 Fairlane, also has 2 more pushrod 427-equipped Fairlanes and more... !

Anyone have any luck??

I looked through all my stuff and seen no mention of it whatsoever....

I will keep my eyes open for it though! My latest collecting trend has been to peurchase the old "shop tips" booklets from Ford and I'm sure to find somthing eventually...
