I hear ya. In my case, Divco, being a specialist company, and not making their own powertrain components, switched back and forth due to availability, different rear ends, tranny's and engines. Then, it was owned by a dairy, and they switched engines, etc. in order to keep trucks in service, and then for 9 years it was owned by a company in S.Cal that rented it out to the movie studios, and they were only concerned about appearances, and that it ran, so they did some,...funky things to it.Ahhhh it never ends. But then we love these older trucks, because? They remind us of a bygone era, I don't have to get out my metric sockets when I'm working on them, or my Star or torq bits, Its built solid, its a tank, I can open the hood and actually see the engine, I have plenty of room to work on it, ...cause I do.
