FRED JONES REBUILD

looking at a metal tag on my 200 and it says it was rebuilt by fred jones rebuilders,I see thay have been bought out, my question is the tag for the engine bore has a code 'E', any ideas what that means?

Fred Jones was a large Ford Dealer here in OKC. They also remanufactured engines at one time. I don't know what the E would have stood for.

I would guess it's either the oversize code (fifth letter - five times ten thou over?) or the operator who did the boring/honing.

Possibly "early". When we rebuilt engines we had our own code system. If there are different pistons in early and late model engines then they would probably use some type of code to ID them.
