Freeze Plugs & Head teardown

ok, the time has come to throw my 2 extra heads on my work bench and start on them. I know they are not I6's but what should I expect with the tear down.

First off, what's the best way to pop the freeze plugs. IIRC, somebody told me to use a chisle or screw driver to push one side in and then use plyer/channel locks/vice grips to pull it out. Is that my best bed?

Next, is there a way to disassemble the valve assembly's without a valve spring compressor tool?

That's the way. Just punch em in, turn em sideways, and yank. However, resist the urge to do a lot of sanding and cleaning on the holes. They're sized for an interference fit so just a cleanup is enough.
