Freeze plugs

Now that I have my engine running, I noticed yesterday that one on the freeze plugs located on the right side of the engine block is leaking.

What do I need to do to repair this problem? I think they sell kits at my local NAPA dealer but what exactly comes with the kit? Does it require a special tool to install the new plug? How is the job performed?

when installing freeze plugs in an engine while it is still in the car, they make expanding rubber plugs that works like the old thermos plugs. they come in various diameters. drill a hole in the old plug so you can pry it out.
clean up the hole. install the new plug by turning the hex nut until it is tight.
i have used these several times and never had one of these come loose.

I think if you pound on one side of the plug it will dislodge. Then you can grap it with pliers and not risk drilling and getting filings in your block. I use a large socket or a seal driver if I have the correct size to set them.

Well, last night I didn't have to pry, pull or drill anything. The plug fell right out when I went to grap a part of the exposed plug. That was a major relief knowing I didn't have to worry about possibly damaging the holes surface.

I picked up a couple of expandable plugs at my local auto parts store and had the new one installed in just a couple of minutes. I did have to remove the starter to access the plug a little better, but over all, it was easy to do.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
