All,

Looking to build a 200 l6 to replace my 170 in the Bronco. The 170 is a 1968 block and the 200 is stamped 1966. Having a difficulty locating the fuel pump with vacuum for wiper boost. I see some available for the 144 & 170 ci but does not extent to the 200 ci engines. I thought most of the parts were interchangeable but does not appear the case for the fuel pump.

Here is the 170 model: https://www.sixityauto.com/carter-f...jifBguXRVoHE&gPromoCode=5BUCKS-20240731&gQT=2

I did fine Egge rebuilds pumps and could locate a rebuild kit but still do not know if my 170 model would swap over to the 200 block. https://egge.com/fuel-pump-rebuilding/

Will the 170 model fit on the 200? I cannot seem to find any options to be able to keep my vacuum wipers and no, I don't want to go electric just yet.

Thanks

Hi, I also have a 66 Bronco. I cannot tell you anything about fuel pump situation. On my Bronco I am using a vacuum hose from direct intake manifold vacuum to run my wipers. Not the best, but it works ok for the few times I get caught in the rain. More important, is to make sure that the 1966 block is drilled with the later dual bolt pattern for the larger bell housing that you need for the 3.03 tranny in the Bronco. Early 144, 170, and 200 engines are drilled for the small bell housing with the 8.5" clutch. In 1966 some engines had the dual bolt pattern, and in 1967 all the old 2.73 tranny was replaced with the updated 3.03 tranny with the mighty 9" clutch. Ford kept the small bolt pattern for use with the C4 tranny.Good luck

As far as I know the 170/200 fuel pump are the same. I hear a lot about the poor quality of new fuel pumps apparently most made in china. Have you contacted vendors like Toms Bronco parts or Bronco Graveyard? I would be tempted to go the rebuild route and I have also considered using a vacuum reservoir to make the vac wipers a little more consistent.
And B RON CO provides good advice and here is link to classicbroncos.com about that:

BITD sourced a 'NOS' dual FP on Interweb for the '61,. Pump was NOS and leaked immediately from shelf age deterioration. If you have original pump and actual rebuild parts are fresh, may be preferable to rebuild.
.
.
.
later picked up an electric wiper setup and never installed - as long as vac' wiper motor works reasonably well, wipers work without the dual FP except WOT or close.
.
see:
.
the audible oooh / ahhh of the vacuum motor under dash is assuring. - The Vacuum wipers in the 'Stovebolt Six' and my '61 Comet work fine without the dual diaphragm pump - long as it isn't raining...
.

have fun

If the vacuum motor works, how about an electric vacuum pump that you turn on only when you get caught in the rain?

Looked around online and electric vacuum pumps are found on many vehicles so probably can find one at picnpul. If the pump could somehow activate automatically that would be even better. I have always enjoyed excursions to picnpul for parts shopping.

B Ron Co...

The 200 block is drilled for both small and large bell I believe. Currently running a three speed RAN N-1 3.03 manual so I hope it will bolt up. I assume it has a 8.5" clutch from details I have read but have not opened her up yet. I have a 1981 T Bird organ donor with I6 that I plan to carve the head and Duraspark out of. Thanks for the heads up and your contributions to this site for us greenhorns.

Your 81 block could be a big bell 200. Do you have plans for the block?

Hi, you are correct, the block has the dual bolt pattern. All the Broncos came with the new "flat" flywheel and (I'm not sure) either the 9" or 9 3/8" clutch. I think it was the 9 3/8", but ever since I got mine in the 1980s, it had a 9". Try finding the 9 3/8" clutch assembly anyway! Good luck
